Without disputing fact, the Kaduna born 5”9 ft. Nigerian rapper, song writer and performer, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, also known as S to Da K is one of the most celebrated artistes in Nigerian entertainment industry.
Skale’s music career traces back to 2009, when he released his first single, “Must Shine”. That same year, he got signed to Empire Mates Entertainment, the music label credited for two of Nigeria’s highly demanded artistes, Banky W and Wizkid. He won his first accolade for his music best upcoming artist (male) at the Nigerian Teens choice awards in 2013.
Many great Nigerian artistes were featured in the album including, Burna Boy, Davido, Reekado Banks, Olamide, Victoria Kimani, Ice Prince, Phyno, Kenny Wonder, Attitude, Capital FEMI and Rotimi. As contained in the album, part of the tracks cut across, Intro featuring Do2DTun, “I’m a winner” featuring Burna Boy, “Always” featuring Davido, “Wonder” featuring Reekado Banks, “Ijo Ayo” featuring Olamide and lots more.
In reviewing this great work from the stable of Skales, if an album of 22 tracks has just 4 excellent songs, then it’s a good album, but on the other hand sources revealed that the album lack originality. Starting from the title, as a matter of fact, the title “Man of the year” is quite familiar because Phyno have a song associated to the title. He should have named the album something else instead of the ‘Man of the year’.
Coming down to the tracks, the role of Reekado Banks of Mavin Records, Ice prince, Burna Boy, Phyno, Davido, Olamide YBNL amongst others cannot be likened a child’s play in the album as they all lend him their voices for the twenty tracks. For example “In always track”, he briefly references D’Banj’s “Fall in Love” from the “Entertainer” album.
In the meantime, part of the tracks that are regarded as excellent songs may not stand the test of time, because the album fails to produce a strong theme. This is a serious challenge for Skales to come out with something more spectacular.
Having cross examined the album, Skales should sit tight on how to produce mind blowing and unique albums, that will become the major talk of the town. Nevertheless, the Artist has done great work, but fans are expecting more.
