What If ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ Was R-Rated?

Even though the films of the Harry Potter franchise got considerably more mature and dangerous as they progressed, they never crossed into R-ratedterritory. That’s obviously because of the audience at which they were geared, but one can’t help but wonder what the wizarding film series would be like if it was pushed to be a little more adult.
No, we’re not talking about a porn parody, but instead, a more violent, even vulgar version of Harry PotterFine Brothers Entertainment have imagined what that would be like with an animated example of what Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone would have been liked if it had an R-rating. There’s cartoon blood and swearing, so it’s somewhatNSFW. Watch R-rated Harry Potter after the jump!
Here’s the video from Fine Brothers Entertainment:
By default, the story is a little more grim, giving Harry Potter a black eye and scrapes on his face from being abused by the Dursleys at home. But that’s just the tip of the extra violence and blood added to Harry Potter as Quidditch is turned into an even more deadly sport than it was originally, with plenty of impaling and even decapitation.
And of course, there’s plenty of swearing and even a reference to wizard racism from decades past. At one point, Ravenclaw was the house of choice for black witches and wizards. Hermione read about it in Hogwarts, A History. Of course, even though witches and wizards progressed beyond racism, some didn’t learn lessons since grudges persist towards half-bloods.
There’s a part of me that would love to see a much more grown up version of Harry Potter (which could end up being theseries adaptation of Magicians on SyFy), but that will never happen in big budget form. But maybe some fan will create a work like the recent Power Rangers short that made the property R-rated and gritty. Until then, this will have to do.
