President Goodluck Jonathan has flagged off the N34,047 billion
rehabilitation of the Aba-Porthacourt point of the Enugu-Port Harcourt
Expressway, awarded to CCECC Nig. Ltd, a Chinese construction firm.
The contract will last for 30 months, having been awarded on December 11, 2014.
The Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, who stood in for the president, conducted the flag-off ceremony, which took place at Alaoji, Aba in Abia State. The Minister was, however, represented by the Director of Highway Planning and Development in the Federal Ministry of Works, Bala Damshehu.
Speaking through the minister during the flag-off, President Jonathan expressed delight for the rehabilitation of the Section IV of the dual carriageway, stating that he was aware that works were already going on at other sections of the road, which had been awarded for rehabilitation.
He said the project was in keeping with his avowed commitment to the development of road infrastructure in the country, under the transformation agenda of his administration.
