No fewer than 16 shops were burnt yesterday following a fire-outbreak
at Ringim Central Market in Ringim Local Government area of Jigawa
State.
This was confirmed to Daily Sun by the Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Muhammad Gidado, in Dutse, the state capital.
He said the fire started at about 9am and raged almost one hour before it was put-out by the men of state fire service agency with the support of NSCDC rescue team.
According to Gidado, though there was no loss of life, the inferno destroyed goods estimated at millions of naira.
The commandant maintained that several shops of groundnut and other materials were destroyed during the incident.
Gidado further explained that the cause of the inferno was yet to be ascertained, adding that investigation was ongoing by the command.
He urged traders in all markets in the state to refrain from using inflammable materials at the point of their business to avoid similar incident.
